Vivaldi\u2019s \u2018Spring\u2019 from the \u2018Four Seasons\u2019 is beautiful, full of melody and intricate harmonies; it is aesthetically pleasing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But Elgar\u2019s \u2018Nimrod\u2019 from the \u2018Enigma Variations\u2019 stirs my soul. I can see rolling English hills covered in hues of green and brown; a lazy sun rising in a blue sky with wisps of high, cirrus clouds; larks singing as they rise; a traditional village nestled in the valley, with a church and a pub and a village green.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Da Vinci\u2019s \u2018Mona Lisa\u2019, with her enigmatic smile, the mystery of who she is, is a great painting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dali\u2019s \u2018Christ of St John of the Cross\u2019, with its extraordinary perspective, like an Orthodox icon, draws me into the suffering of Christ on the cross, the mystery of God\u2019s love, while ordinary life carries on with the little fishing boat \u2026 I could spend hours simply gazing at this picture, meditating on it, communing with God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Psalmist wrote:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
