Safeguarding

Churches should be safe, happy places where everybody feels at ease.   Safeguarding helps to ensure this by looking after the welfare of its members, especially children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Safeguarding training helps to ensure that everybody understands how this can be carried out, by knowing what to look for and what to do about anything untoward.  The latter is almost always just ‘report’ it – in extreme cases this could be a 999 job if life is in danger.   Normally It is ‘report to the Parish Safeguarding Officer or the Diocesan Safeguarding Officer.’

SAFEGUARDING TRAINING

BASIC AWARENESS  (C0),

There are various levels of Safeguarding training.     Everybody who does anything for the church should do the first level, Basic Awareness to gain some understanding of what safeguarding is all about.     This can be done on-line, takes around an hour, and is very easy – if you get a question wrong you can repeat it until you succeed.

FOUNDATIONS  (C1)

Safeguarding Foundation training takes approximately two hours to complete and is required for anyone with safeguarding responsibilities/contact with children and/or adults at risk.

LEADERSHIP (C2)

This is designed for those people who play a lead role in shaping the culture of the Church body concerned.

This is required to be completed by:

  • All Clergy holding the Bishop’s licence, commission, authorisation, or permission, including Honorary/Assistant Bishops and Chaplains.
  • All Readers and Hereford Local Ministers
  • Parish/benefice Safeguarding Officers
